In July 2015, the “Yamaboko Junko” parade of huge wooden festival floats (Yama and Hoko) took place under heavy rain (we were spared a typhoon but got a tropical storm). There were talks of cancellation, but I’ve heard that the financial consequences would have been simply too dire for this to be an actual option.
We found a nice little spot along Kawaramachi Street and were able to watch the parade and the hundreds of figurants, all dressed up in beautiful historical costumes. Hopefully, the second parade that will take place on July 24th will be under a sunny sky.
