The location is great, bus stop was real close and only few minutes to get to Kyoto station. The house was super comfortable! Everything was there to feel like at home. Heating system in every room, including shower room! Japanese traditional style beautifully collaborated with modern touch and electronics made the house even nicer. If you are travelling with more than 3 people, I would really suggest staying here.

Neighborhood was very calm and quiet

We really enjoyed our stay at Akiko and Patricks home in Kyoto. Akiko provided great directions on how to check in, instructions in Japanese for the tax, and how to find this unit. Initially I was concerned about possible train noise, but there was no noise, and the neighborhood was very calm and quiet. I home itself has a feel of the old but at the same time modern with up to date technology. It is a bit small, especially the stairs, but I think this is probably the way Japanese live, versus our American sized homes. The home has everything you need and was tastefully decorated. The location is great, close to the bus lines with quick access to Kyoto Station as well as Gion, temples, etc. I would highly recommend this unit (except for people that would have problems with step narrow stairs).

Lots of taxis going by every few seconds

All I can say about Sanjusan machiya was ” AMAZING!!!” I love the decor, traditional Japanese with modern twist. It provides with many amenities just like home. It even had heated floor. We had families of six and was very comfortable. Location was very convenient. Bus stop was just couple minutes away. Lots of taxis going by every few seconds. Walking distance to subway. I would highly recommend this place.

Communication with Akiko was perfect

This house was superb. Although built/renovated recently, it had all the charms of a traditional Japanese house, with all modern conveniences. The house made out Kyoto stay significantly more enjoyable. Communication with Akiko was perfect, instructions were clear and detailed, and everything was smooth and pleasant. For anyone who will visit Kyoto with a group of maximum four, we cannot recommend enough this place.

Kyoto Sanjusan Samurai Machiya is hands down one of the nicest AirBnBs I’ve had the pleasure to stay in. It’s beautiful, well renovated and well kept. And the location was perfect for us — about a ten minute walk to the subway, just enough to burn a few calories from the delicious food in Kyoto. I would definitely stay here again.

We appreciated that there were two toilets and the bath was separate

The house has a wonderful location close to Kyoto station and bus stops. It is well-furnished with all the amenities needed, while providing a very Japanese ambience. We appreciated that there were two toilets and the bath was separate. We were very comfortable and enjoyed our stay at the Sanjusan Machiya very much. Our host Akiko was very responsive and quick to reply to emails even if she was traveling in Europe at the time. She was also very accommodating and helpful. The only negative was the check-in process in their office that required a walk of 4-5 blocks from Kyoto Station that I only found out after I had booked. I have used airbnb several times and this is the first time I was not met by the host in the property itself upon arrival. Apart from that, everything was great! Akiko even sent us Kyoto sweets on our second day. Thanks, Akiko! We would not hesitate to stay with Akiko again.

The check in process was super easy

We had a really wonderful stay! The check in process was super easy and everyone involved was incredibly helpful. Akiko responded to all of my emails very quickly and provided great information. In addition to the great binder of tips, the house website is very helpful. This is a great spot, close to the station and the principle touring areas, I would recommend it to anyone heading to Kyoto!

We could not fault our experience with Akiko. Replies to email were super fast, all the advice and directions were concise and accurate. Our experience with Cafe Dozen(12) for checkin was smooth. Sanjusan Machiya is everything you could expect and more. A traditional Japanses timber house, beautifully appointed and, for us, very convenient to the bus service. The nearby main road leads to all the wonderful sites Kyoto had to offer. I would confidently (& have) recommended Sanjusan Machiya to our family and friends. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Highly Recommended.

Can’t say enough of our host akiko We always had our questions answered promptly. And we given advise, as needed. This was a fantastic house. The best of two worlds. So comfortable and clean an roomy. We had 5 with no issue. The area is very quiet, and easy to access transport to and from all areas We would highly recommend this home to anyone

The machiya had everything you could possibly need

Sarah From Dulwich Hill, Australia

We had an amazing array at Akiko’s house. The machiya had everything you could possibly need. There was 4 of us that stayed at Akiko’s, two of us slept on traditional futons on tatami mats and they were surprisingly comfy. The bathroom and kitchen were well appointed. The machiya is close to Tofukuji station and a bus stop, so it’s super easy to get Downtown. Definately will stay again if I’m ever back in Kyoto.
