We are often asked by our guests where is it possible to see dancing or tea ceremony by a Maiko, an apprentice Geisha (or Geiko, as they are called in Kyoto). Well, up to now, the answer was not an easy one. This has recently changed with the opening of the Maiko Theater in the Higashiyama area.
The Maiko Theater is a brand-new facility where you can enjoy performances by a maiko while eating a bento lunch or watch a Maiko performing a tea ceremony while enjoying a sweet with tea. In both cases, you’ll have a chance to discuss with the maiko, ask her questions, and learn about their life.
This is also a good opportunity to go home with a photo of the maiko (no flash allowed during the performance), and you’ll even get a souvenir photo of you with a maiko.
